Diabetes: A Deeper Look
See diabetes in a different way, in and around a giant blood vessel.
Imagine walking through a 40-foot blood vessel and entering a giant cell. You can,
at the exciting new exhibit—Diabetes: A Deeper Look. This educational journey takes
you inside and around a blood vessel with interactive displays and hands-on exhibits
about diabetes, diabetes treatment options, and the role insulin plays in the body.
Diabetes: A Deeper Look is designed to show you what it’s like to live with diabetes.
You’ll learn about the lifestyle changes people with diabetes should make, such as changing
their diet and exercise—and what can be done when these changes alone aren’t enough.

In the United States, nearly 24 million people are living with diabetes, including
an estimated 5.7 million who remain undiagnosed. Diabetes: A Deeper Look was created
to raise awareness about diabetes—which is an excess of sugar in the blood—and help
people understand how important it is to keep blood sugar under control.
Diabetes: A Deeper Look was developed by the Detroit Science Center Designs & Exhibits
and made possible through support from sanofi-aventis U.S. The exhibit will be touring
the country through 2012.
This exhibit will answer some important questions, including:

- What happens if you have uncontrolled blood sugar?
- How can people with diabetes live healthier lives?
- What is insulin and how does it work in the body?
